I’ve been to North Dakota twice while documenting Lost Americana. Both were brief trips on the edge of the state. The first in 2002 I passed through the very southwestern tip on my way from Montana to South Dakota. The second in 2003, another brief half-day, as I passed from Canada into Minnesota.
The two trips which lasted less than 12 hours combined left me wanting more, but the remoteness of the state has a tendency to keep even the dedicated traveler away.
So after a decade of looking at photos on Flickr from people like Rick Craig (https://www.flickr.com/photos/imrickndakota/) and the guys at Ghosts of North Dakota (http://www.ghostsofnorthdakota.com/) I’m super excited to be heading back to that state. And this time for a full week all to itself. Ok, South Dakota I’ll probably visit you as well, but don’t tell anybody.
