Happy World Space Week. Get out and see America!

One of the most repeated things I’ve said over the decades when asked for travel ideas is, get in the car. Pick a destination. Spend only half your time there and the other half traveling to that spot.

So, while this image from Big Bend National Park has little to do with the population decline in rural agricultural America, it was a destination point on one of my trips.

Seeing the parts of the country that most of us choose to fly over has been a major reason why I feel such a strong connection to rural America, despite living in its third largest city. The number of great diners and even greater sites I’ve seen over the years, plus the number of interesting people I’ve meet, has created far more memories than any airport lounge.

Space is a vast area, America is pretty big too. Stop flying to the beaches and see the rest of the place.
